Lethbridge School District's 125th Anniversary
An exciting year awaits Lethbridge School District in 2010/11, its 125th year as a school District. Minutes from the very first meeting of the “Protestant School District of Lethbridge” are dated March 25, 1886. The minutes are hand written and indicate that Mr. William Stafford was elected the first Board Chair. Mr. John Craig was the other trustee, with a third trustee to be determined by an election on March 31, 1884 in the Lethbridge Hall. Mr. John McSean was offered the first teacher contract for the District, and was hired for an annual salary of $500.
The District is excited to celebrate this milestone anniversary year with its staff, students and community. In the April edition of the Focus on 51 District newsletter, details of a contest to develop a 125th anniversary logo will be shared with staff. The intent is to use the anniversary logo for the year, in addition to the permanent logo.
