Lethbridge School District No. 51 Appoints Chair & Vice Chair
The annual organizational meeting of Lethbridge School District No. 51 was held on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009. The trustees re-elected current Chair, Gary Bartlett and current Vice Chair, Keith Fowler, to the respective positions for the 2009/10 year. Gary Bartlett is entering his ninth year as a trustee for District 51. He was a trustee on the Board from 1998 – 2004, serving as chair from 1998 – 2000 and again from 2002 – 2004. After choosing not to run in the 2004 municipal election, Gary was elected to the Board in the 2007 election. Gary served the District as a teacher and administrator for 30 years prior to becoming involved in the capacity as Board trustee. Upon his re-election as Chair Bartlett said, “I am appreciative of the support of my colleagues on the Board. Our commitment is to ensure the outstanding relationship we as a Board have with our staff and community is maintained. It appears that we may face some budget challenges in the 2010/11 fiscal year, however I am confident that through the open, collaborative process that is in place our District we will develop a plan that ensures engaging learning opportunities are available for all our students.”
Keith Fowler is beginning his sixth year as a school board trustee for Lethbridge School District. He was first elected to the Board in 2004, and will be serving his fifth year as vice chair. Prior to running for election, Keith was very involved as a parent volunteer and school council advocate, serving as chair of the LCI School Council and District School Council for a total of six years.
Following the election of chair and vice-chair all seven trustees, including Tyler Demers, Mich Forster, Jan Foster, Lola Major & Lea Switzer volunteered to serve as Board representatives on a total of 25 committees.
All persons with an interest in education are encouraged to attend Lethbridge School District Board meetings, held the second and fourth Tuesday’s of each month, beginning at 3.30 pm in the Education Centre located at 433 – 15 Street S. At each meeting an open forum is scheduled for 4.30 pm at which time members of the public are invited to address the Board. Please note the first November meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, November 9.
