60 Sec Tech

These weekly Videos explore SMARTBoard teaching techniques to 6-12 Math Teachers. Our emphasis and purpose is to create lessons that are engaging for students. The lessons we will present will focus on getting students up to the smartboard and out of their desks. We will be covering template lessons that the viewer will be able to download off our website. Although we will be focusing on Math topics, most lessons can be applied to any subject. Dave Sladkey is a high school math teacher and Scott Miller is the Instructional Coordinator for the Math Department at Naperville Central High School in Naperville Illinois just west of Chicago. Both have been using the Smartboard since 2004. They have presented numerous times at Smartboard workshops at the school, district, state, and national level. Join us for this weekly Video.

AISI/ETL Cornerstone III - 21st Century

ClassroomsEngaging Students through Effective Instructional Strategies

21st Century ClassroomsThe 21st century classroom refers to a new and innovative approach to education. The new classroom will exist wherever the student happens to be, it will be an environment that combines traditional tools with embedded technologies. The teacher’s role will be that of co-learner, and expert guide.  Students will take more responsibility and control over their learning. Students will use engaging technologies in collaborative, inquiry-based learning environments with teachers who are willing and able to use technology’s power to assist them in transforming knowledge and skills into products, solutions and new information. (Nesbitt, 2008)  Project-based learning will allow students to acquire 21st-century skills in the context of real-world scenarios, and the integration of video and other media to support instruction links students with outside resources and enables teachers to address many learning styles at once. In fact, the 21st-century learning environment doesn’t just wait for teachable moments; it literally creates them at will. (Melvin, 2008)

Key elements and information:

Today’s teachers must be responsible for providing a learning environment that takes students beyond the walls of their classrooms and into the world of endless opportunities through effective infusion of relevant content with up-to-date and emerging tools and resources. This classroom transformation is imperative in ensuring digital-age students are empowered to learn, live and work successfully, today and tomorrow!
